If you’ve been following Positive Diabetes over the past years, you probably know I’ve had diabetes for almost 25 years and went from not having seen my diabetes doctor for years at a time, to now, helping many many people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes improve their health and wellbeing.

What’s allowed me to make this transition? It’s my mindset. I figured out that although I knew exactly what I should be doing to care for my health, I didn’t seem able to translate this into the daily behaviours I needed to engage in to achieve diabetes control and better health.

  • Do you believe you must be a ‘good’ or ‘perfect’ diabetic, or else you’ve failed?

The thing is that all of these beliefs and fears are completely untrue. In fact, the thing you seek is right behind the struggle.

What I discovered through my Clinical Psychology doctoral training and after the last five years of doing intense personal development work on my ‘self’, is that all of these fears are invalid.

Yet they are the reason why you aren’t achieving the health and sense of control over your diabetes you want to have right now. The longer you believe in these false ideas, (even at an unconscious level), the longer it will take to achieve the health results you want.

Most people don’t even know all this stuff is holding them back. You may just think something’s wrong with you for not being able to achieve the health you want.

  • “I’m not as lucky as he/she is, so I can’t create the same results.”

The thing is, if you knew how easy it is to clear out this cobwebs and eliminate the negative thoughts that are holding you back from what’s rightfully yours, you’d be shocked.

Thoughts - Feelings - Action/Behaviou - Results

Every thought you have creates a feeling within you that dictates each of your actions. Then each action creates a particular result in your life. An unhelpful thought, even just one, creates a negative feeling, which prevents you from taking action that would help your health, which then dictates your results.

How do I know this?

Because I’ve been working on this myself for more than five years, both personally and with others with diabetes just like you. They SAY they want something better for their health, but each time, they stop themselves from achieving it. You’re exactly the same.

Do you know how I know this about you? Because you and I are the same, I’ve been there myself, I’ve had the same self-sabotaging issues.

  • I was convinced I didn’t have ‘what it takes’ to get my diabetes in control.
  • I didn’t feel ‘good enough’ as a person to be healthy.
  • I would say to myself “I can’t do that, it’s too much effort.”
  • I believed I couldn’t change ‘that much.’
  • I used to think achieving very good health would mean I would have little time for anything else.
